Thank-you Note

I really enjoyed the 3 day-2night NTU Flagship program.I had a lots of fun and learnt a lot of things. The Campus and the hostels were very nice. I now aspire to study in NTU.I would like to thank all the NTU professors for sharing their knowledge with us. Next, I would like thank the staff and student helpers for their hard work and active support.I really liked and enjoyed the activities that they arranged. I would also like to thank the teachers in SST for organizing this wonderful program.I hope to visit NTU again and that there would be more of this kind of programs coming up soon.

My Accomplishments

1) Discuss how the project has deepened your understanding and broadened your awareness of the selected discipline.

I usually do not photoshop pictures and thus I was not fully aware of the process of doing it.However, after this project,I learnt the basic steps of photoshopping and the usage of tools required for it.

2) Discuss what do you now understand about this discipline that you were unaware of at the beginning.

After this project,I realized that photoshop can be very tedious and complicated but is very useful.I learnt that with the help of photoshop we can turn a person into anything.Today I was able to turn myself into a superhero using the Adobe Photoshop software.I learnt that there are many aspects in photoshop such as digital painting,masking & shadowing.

3) Describe how what you have learned from doing this project can be connected to what you are learning at school.

What I have learnt from doing this project is quite similar to what I learnt in ICT lessons and some other subjects. During both the project and ICT lessons, I learnt to apply my creativity on visuals to crop and photoshop them as I like and make them more interesting and meaningful in conveying their messages.

4) Describe how you can apply what you have learned from doing this project.

I can photoshop some of the visuals I use in my performance tasks to make them more engaging and interesting.

5) At the end of the project, what new questions do you now have?

Are there more advanced types of photoshop?

6) My aspirations

I aspire to photoshop more pictures often since I have learnt how to photoshop in this project.

Reflection on Plenary Sessions

1) Plenary session by Prof Kerry Sieh

I learnt about how volcanoes form and result in tsunamis.To predict these volcanoes, GPS stations are set up over volcano prone areas. Forecast is then made based on hydrodynamics and engineering of the effects of the coming tsunami. I also learnt that there is an uplift of land after a tsunami and it can be measured using corals.There are deposits of tsunamis beneath the ground and 

2) IT for animation by Prof Seah Hock Soon

Animation is mostly used for storytelling. I learnt about the three types of animation: stop motion, 2D animation & 3D animation.I learnt that the three types of animation are unique but the most tedious type is 2D animation. Often, special effects such as Calculas & law of physics are used to enhance animation. Science & Information technology (eg. Geometric modeling) is also used in animation.There are many jobs offered under Information technology such as Computer programming.

3) Innovative breakthroughs in Nano-Science and Nana-Technology by Prof Ma Jan

I learnt that Nano technology is helpful in killing bacteria,reducing freckles,cleaning water,finger-print detection and the production of artificial bones & stents.It is also used in artificial photosynthesis,target delivery of medicine and bullet-proof clothing.Since smaller size for fixed volume results in larger surface area,atoms are very strong. We can find out the surface area of nano-particles using surface area analyzers and view atoms using large electronic microscopes. Examples of Nano technology is CNT,Quantam Dots (QD) & Nano-particles.

 1) What interests you about this project?

I am interested in using the Adobe Photoshop software to photoshop my picture into a completely different person that I want.

 2) What do you want to learn by doing this project?

I want to learn the necessary skills to use photoshop effectively and apply my creativity on visuals to make them interesting and unique.

What are the necessary steps and methods needed to be taken to photoshop pictures nicely?

4) What do you personally want to have achieved by the end of this project?

By the end of this project,I want to be equipped with more skills and should be  able to photoshop different visuals effectively.
